I have question about growing Dahlias?
I live in south Texas and last year I planted a bunch of Dahlias and they bloomed all season then like they are suppose to they died back for the winter and went dormant. Now everything is starting to bloom out again everything that is but my Dahlias. Whats up? Do they bloom later or are they dead? It did not get cold enough to kill my bulbs because my Iris has bloomed out. I am just wondering because I am still new to this gardining thing. Any help would be great thanks.

Be patient, hon. I’m zone 8 (SC) and my dahlias are just now sprouting. Tough little kids, give them time.
Iris are winter hardy and will survive year to year. Dahlias aren’t quite so hardy, but I live in NY near Lake Ontario and one year I had them planted near the foundation of the house and they came up the second year, so don’t give up hope yet. (It gets really cold up here) If they don’t come up, next time remove them after they die back, clean them up and put them in peat moss and shoe boxes and store in a sheltered place like the the garage or basement to plant the following spring.
