Anderson Japanese Gardens

Anderson Japanese Gardens, Rockford, Illinois, is internationally renowned as one of the premier Japanese Gardens outside of Japan. Situated on a twelve acre site and comprised of an authentic Japanese pond-strolling garden, guest house, tea house, gazebo, stone lanterns, and waterfalls, as well as the Garden of Reflection, and a contemporary garden with a strong Japanese influence.

A Japanese Garden is designed to allow the visitor to reflect upon the tranquil beauty of nature. In doing so, one is led away from the stresses of everyday life. The serenity one feels in the garden instills a sense of calm and enables the visitor to commune with nature and thus one’s self.
The following video is a compilation of stills taken on a trip to the Gardens with my Mom, on 8/9/06. They are presented in the exact chronological order that they were shot, preserving each step of our journey on that day.

Just went yesterday. Beautiful. I can’t wait to return. It’s a 70 mile drive and I feel lucky that I’m even that close.

It’s a magical place. If I could build a home and landscape in any fashion, this would be it.

i like it when people compare chicago to rockford.. almost every time they think rockford is the better… its sad that rockford has a higher poverty rate than chicago (22.5% for rockford, 21.3% for chicago) but it has a more beautiful scener y and we do more things for the poor and is more into volunteering. Rockford is just a nice, peaceful small city (its classified as a city).

  21. Anna Sainsbury Said:

I live almost across the street from there and Spring Creek. I go almost every month. Every single time it is a beautiful and enjoyable time. My mother works there also (I get a discount there.)

  25. Shyla Bassett Said:

Wow! It’s such a beautiful garden. If I could really be there right now with that music it would be so soothing. Although just seeing the pictures is just as calming.
